The annual Nile Street Solstice has expanded to involve more Sunniside creative businesses, and so this year is the Sunniside Solstice!
The event is on Friday 21st June, starting at Deborah Cauchi Fine Arts at 3-30pm. See the schedule of events below and do join us in the fun.

Lego and Superhero activities!
Come along and paint your own special lego mini figure to take home, maybe make your own little family of mini figures; or if you are more of a superhero fan then pop in and colour your favourite one, from Batman to spiderman. fun activities for families after school.
5.30 - 7.30pm
Free glass activities, exhibition and student fund-raiser!
We will be running free glass activities for all ages. Join us to ‘sandcast a sun’ using molten glass and ‘paint your own glass decoration’ with specialist paints and found objects. We also have a student fund-raising sale and an exciting new tenant showcase exhibition.
‘Glass and Ceramic 3rd year fundraiser sale’
The University of Sunderland’s 3rd year Glass and Ceramic students fundraise for their group trip to New Designers, London. Buy from the handmade sale and support the new creative generation.
‘New tenant showcase exhibition’
Creative Cohesion is proud to introduce new tenants from our Nile Street and Villiers Street buildings. Exhibitor disciplines range from Graphic Designer to Fine Art, Music and Photography.
‘Sandcast a Sun’ FREE Hotglass activity (10+ age)
Glass artist Roger Tye will assist you in the making of your very own glass sun. Impress shapes into densely packed sand and watch as molten glass is poured over your creation. Glass pieces can be collected the following week.
‘Paint your own glass decoration’ FREE (5+ age)
Have a go at making your own glass decorations using specialist glass paints. Decorate a vase, tile or tea-light lantern, and take your masterpiece home the same day.

Art in the Sky!
An exhibition of kites by Pauline Taylor and Frances Anderson
An opportunity for a close up view of artwork which is designed to be flown. Frances makes exquisite kites from bamboo and paper which has been hand coloured using batik techniques. Pauline’s kites are made from carbon fibre frames and nylon fabric which is painted in a ‘trompe l’oeil’ style to represent buildings, columns and now moths. there will be a chance to make your own mini-kites with a solstice theme.

Annual Summer Salon!
The summer salon is a celebration of local artists, a huge group show dedicated to art produced in Sunderland and the surrounding areas. the summer solstice goes out with a bang, an explosion of fine art, photography, performance, BBQ, drinks and live music. All welcome.
